Welling

The Welling Carronade (Cannon) was brought home by victorious British troops after the Crimean War (1853 - 1856). The gun is on permanent loan from the Firepower Royal Artillery Museum.

It was presented to the people of Welling in commemoration of local people who worked in the ammunition factories during the First World War.

Design for the seating area adjacent to the cannon was drawn up, following a workshop in 2012, with pupils at St Stephen's R C Primary School, who wanted to feature animals in the design to complement the cannon and bring the area to life.

The cannon is a 6.75 inch calibre having a weight of 17 cwt.
